25th Anniversary Celebration Performance

Our DJD resident instructor is busy preparing students for a show on Thursday May 21. Performing arts such as theater, dance, and music help children develop critical life skills. Key benefits include boosted self-confidence, enhanced emotional intelligence through empathy-building, improved communication, and stronger teamwork. Overcoming the fear of a stage and performing in front of an audience helps children develop self-esteem and public speaking skills that translate to future academic and professional success. Additionally, these activities promote academic success and cognitive growth. Research shows that children involved in the performing arts are more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. Activities like memorizing choreography also help strengthen memory and critical thinking. As a performer myself I can speak first hand to this!

While we would love to have all extended families attend, our gym capacity is small so we unfortunately have to limit audiences to 2 seats per family. We will have 2 shows so you can have 1 person attending each show, or 2 people attending one of the shows. We hope all students will be able to perform at the evening show, even if there is no family member in the audience.

  • 1:15 PM doors open
  • 1:30 PM afternoon performance
  • 5:45 PM doors open
  • 6:00 PM evening performance (this is a change from the previously mentioned time of 6:30)

We will not be issuing physical tickets, but ask that you Sign up here. Note that the name you enter will be visible to other users – use a nickname if you wish.

There will be limited capacity for family members to attend the dress rehearsal at 10:40am on May 21. Please email me at lmstyan@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested in coming to that.

We ask families to model great audience etiquette and stay for the entire show, which is expected to be 30-40 minutes run time.

Staff Updates

Our wonderful music teacher Brent Cooper has decided to retire at the end of June. We will miss him here but are very happy for the next chapter in his life and wish him all the very best. The position will be posted, and a new music teacher will be hired to start in August.

We are looking forward to the return of our admin secretary Heather Wolfe very soon.

Next Years Class Structure

As you may already know, our student numbers do not allow us to continue with the same structure of classes that we have had in recent years, and you may also already know that there have been challenges in identifying a structure that works well for everyone. Thank you to the many parents who responded to a survey created by Mr. Garner. Your input is valued.

We have taken into account all of the feedback from parents and staff, looked again and again at the options and come up with the best possible plan. Deployment of additional staff resources towards larger classes is part of that plan. Grade 5s will continue to experience a memorable year and will be well prepared for transition to middle school. Student learning and wellbeing needs are our priority, and we will strive to ensure all students thrive.

As our enrolment currently stands, next year we will have one morning kindergarten class, three grade 1-2 combined classes, one grade 3 class and three grade 4-5 combined classes.
