Grade 5 Leadership

As our grade 5 students prepare for Outdoor School they have been developing leadership skills through fund raising initiatives. The final push occurred this week with a popcorn sale. Fundraising reduces the cost per family of going to outdoor school, easing the financial burden for everyone. We are very proud of our students, and appreciate Mr. Clovis for providing these opportunities for learning and personal growth.

Green Fools Residency

The Green Fools residency this week has been a huge success, with students learning a wide variety of circus arts including juggling first with scarves, then balls, rings, clubs and flower sticks, balancing on stilts, slack line and the rolla bolla, and even balancing peacock feathers! Student feedback overall was that they enjoyed persevering over new challenges, would have liked more time, and one student said that next time he would like to include lion taming! Teachers have observed the week to be a great ‘equaliser’ with students who perhaps are not typically stars in PE class, finding their moment to shine, as everyone is learning from scratch. We are, as ever, grateful to our school council and school society for supporting so many awesome residencies at Scenic Acres School.

Twenty-fifth Anniversary Dance Performance and Open House

This spring we celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Scenic Acres School. Current students and families will celebrate on May 21 with a dance performance to music spanning the 25 years. Former staff, students and families are invited to come to an Open House on Thursday June 18 from 4:30-5:30, for an opportunity to look at photographs and legacy art installations and reminisce together. If anyone has any photographs from times past at Scenic Acres School you would like to share in a display at the open house, please forward to me at lmstyan@cbe.ab.ca
