Indigenous People’s Atlas of Canada

For the last two weeks we have had on loan from the ATA the Indigenous map of Canada and accompanying learning activities. This is a floor map that takes up about half the area of the gym! The map is unusual in that it shows no political borders. Vibrant colors highlight the 12 distinct Indigenous language families across Canada. Information layers display First Nation reserves, Métis settlement lands, Inuit Nunangat, historical and modern treaty boundaries, and former residential school locations. As the third year we have had this resource, student engagement has remained high, and the learning is rich. I want to thank grade 1-2 teacher Jen Harris for her persistence in obtaining the map and her leadership in sharing learning activities with staff.

Swimming Oct 13-16

We have made a slight change to the swimming schedule.

  • Rooms 1,2,3 leave at 8:30 and return to school at 10:25 (no change for them)
  • Rooms 6 and 8 leave at 9:05 and return at 11:05
  • Rooms 4 and 5 leave at 9:45 and return at 11:45

Many thanks to resource learning leader Jill Lockerbie for managing all the logistics for swimming, which we know families value and students get a lot from.

We are still in need of male volunteers to support in the change rooms.

Security Reminder

If you are picking your child up early you must come into the office and sign them out as we need to keep our attendance records accurate throughout the day.
